Concept of SAP SCM PP/DS

PP planning methods control the planning actions that the SAP system performs when an event relevant to planning occurs for a specific product in the SAP SCM or OLTP systems. The system can automatically plan the product in the case of a change in requirements or create a planning file entry for the product for example.

Horizons in PP/DS

Production Planning (PP) and Detailed Scheduling (DS) are not only related in terms of business but also in terms of time. Outside the PP/DS horizon, both areas can initially be delineated in the short-term horizon, in contrast to medium to long-term planning methods like SNP.

Within the PP/DS horizon, the key focus of Production Planning (PP) is lot-size-orientated planning in the sense of quantity-orientated requirements planning. Its actual viability/feasibility is only decided when capacities are dispatched (DS) within a short-term time frame (in which production also normally takes place).

In many cases, this is typically well above the planning time fence. The planning time fence can distinguish the quality planning responsibility area (MRP functionality) from the actual detailed scheduling as internal elements cannot be changed from the requirements planning run whereas, by contrast, detailed planning with respect to deadlines is still possible.

Overview of Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling

Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling

Procurement in a location (if necessary, at all BOM levels) is planned using Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling. Planning can be consumption-based (by specifying a reorder point, for example) or plan-based.

If a material is planned using MRP, procurement is based on future independent requirements; and if procurement takes the form of multilevel in-house production, timely procurement of assemblies and components is also planned.

.

Detailed (short-term) procurement planning in a location therefore takes place within Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling. It contains two fundamental steps: Material requirements planning (MRP) and also capacity requirements planning, which, in contrast to planning in SAP ECC system, can be executed simultaneously.

Evaluations in SAP SCM for DP and SNP

The SAP SCM planning data can be evaluated directly using BW tools. These tools not only evaluate InfoCubes in the internal BW system but also transaction data directly from the liveCache.

To use liveCache reporting, you require a planning area in SAP SCM, an extract structure for the planning area, and InfoSource and an SAP RemoteCube, which provides the interface to the BW front end.

.

Using the BW Business Explorer in SAP SCM system, you can evaluate:

• Order data from the SAP liveCache
• Aggregated data in InfoCubes
